This appealed to me straight away. Sitting in traffic recently, this little gem came via rear car window sticker. It conjures up all sorts of images and of course a terrific tag if you’re in the dog obedience game. For me the first connect was one of bouncing around in a ‘don’t worry be happy’ state and shelving anger.Upon further investigation this canine philosophy has been around for a while – yes, it does take me some time on occasion. So much so that it can be apparently traced back as an ancient proverb to around 500BC – go figure.
Addressing my initial comprehension of said sticker, it does indeed allow us to take a moment of reflection. How do you rate? Are you a ‘wagger’ or a ‘barker’?
I must confess that I come from a line of ‘barkers’. However, over the years with much self sought obedience school – also know as personal development – I have learned that wagging puts me in a much better position to deal with what life throws at me. You’ve perhaps heard the expression ‘it’s not what happens to you it’s how you react’?
Life isn’t always pretty that’s for sure. And we can’t always be bouncing around like a docile pup. Sometimes opening the lungs and releasing your inner howl feels justified – you just wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end. Would you? Of course there is always a time and a place. Can’t resist a full moon, but that’s another story.
Unlike our furry friends, we have that Divine ability of choice. Habits are easier to break for some than others, particularly if you are use to living defensively. Be as it may, change can happen and it begins with being Aware. Ah, one of my favourite words and worthy of sharing noun status methinks. Take the time to absorb what’s happening and then choose. Do I bark or do I wag? Hmmm, I’m sure there’s a song in there …. With awareness on board and you get to the wag or bark question, barking has lost out.
It does not mean that you are retreating with tail between legs. No, no, no. It means you are in control of how you choose to deal with the situation. Best to defuse than explode.
So give wagging a go. If we set our intension to one of awareness, positivity, joy then we are more likely to attract same. And of course we always have the moon…
Yours in good health and fun,
